Glitter, Glitter, Glitter

My daughter's first birthday is coming up and I want to make it special.  I found a wooden letter M and a paper mache 1 for the party at my local Hobby Lobby and I first tried to spray paint them....

As you can see, that did not work well.  So I added some Mod Podge and some Martha Stewart glitter, and below is the finished product!

A Special Present

The Back Story
I have been taking a cake decorating class in preparation for my daughter's first birthday party.  After each class there is a cake or cupcakes that I get to bring home.  Well my husband and I have put on a few pounds since I started my cake decorating venture and we collectively decided that we did not need to eat any more cake or cupcakes so my husband has been taking my treats from class up to his work.

The Story
My husband works for a really cool company where they treat their employee's really well.  The other day the company had a employee appreciation lunch and gave away prizes.  One of his coworkers won a Circut Cake machine (which is like a $300 prize).  She ended up giving the prize to my husband to give to me because she knows (from the cakes I have sent) that I have been trying to decorate cakes.  When my husband came home and told me I was so overwhelmed that someone could be that generous and thoughtful.  I decided that cupcakes would be the best thank you.  I designed the "Thank you decorations" and put my piping skills to work and this was the finished product

Cake Wreck

My daughter's first birthday is coming up and I want her to have a really special cake for her birthday.  After spending some time looking at pictures of cakes on Google, I found one that I really want to make.  The one problem is that it will cost me over $100 at my local bakery!  I am just amazed at how much it costs to buy a cake. So I decided I would make her birthday cake myself... it can't be that hard right? Wrong!  I was so excited I went out and bought all the stuff I would need to make her a test smash cake and got to work.  Well it turned out alright, but nothing like I wanted it to look like.  My dreams were dashed to say the least until I was at a local craft store and saw they had a Wilton beginner's cake decorating class that I could take.  So I signed up.  I purchased my supplies and went to the first class.   At the first class I learned how to level a cake, tort the cake (fill it), fill a piping bag, and pipe stars... I was pumped!  At the second class I learned how to ice the cake, transfer an image onto the cake with piping gel and decorate simple designs.  By this point in the story I think I am ready I can bake and decorate a cake for a friend's coworker... no problem.

As the birthday was approaching I purchase all of the supplies I needed to bake a 10 inch double layer cake... my first "professional" cake (I am using the term professional very loosely).  I ended up over cooking the cake and when I went to level and tort the cake, the sides just fell apart.  So my very first cake was a disaster.  I ended up piecing it back together and this was the finished product.....

I lovingly call this one the cake wreck.  Does the cake have the measles or what?

Not exactly the high quality professional looking cake I was going for.  Oh well, there is always next time!

Pinterest!

I know that most of you have known about Pinterest for a long while now... but I just recently discovered the wonderment of Pinterest thanks to a friend of mine!  Plain and simple I am addicted.  So after pinning all of these wonderful ideas I decided to try a few out!  Stay tuned I will be posting my successes and failures along the way!

Better Late than Never...

I know I am a little (or a lot) behind the times, and recently decided that I needed to catch up on what has been trending in social media for a while now.  So I decided to go ahead and set up a Facebook account... I know that it probably baffles most of you that I am just now getting a Facebook account, but before I just did not understand why people could not pick up the phone if they wanted to find out what was going on in someone's life, but after having a baby and leaving the work force I completely understand why Facebook is helpful!

About Me

Hi!  My name is Stephanie I am a wife to a wonderful husband and the mother of a beautiful daughter.  After I had my daughter in 2011, my husband and I decided that I was going to stay at home and raise her.  So I left my career as an Information Technology Internal Auditor (I know super glamorous) and began my new career as a full time wife and mom.  Over the past several months I have been trying to transition into this new life and discover myself as a wife, a mom, and who I am outside of those things.
